ITIL® Misconceptions: The ‘IS’ and ‘IS-NOT’ of ITIL | GAVS Technologies

Image
It is true that there are a lot of misconceptions about ITIL, but these misunderstandings have been around for decades and seem to be getting more prevalent with time- many companies still believe that they should follow the steps set out in the official guide. This section aims to shed some light on this topic by providing some information on what the misconceptions are and how these could be avoided if your company decides to follow ITIL guidelines. Misconception #1: “ITIL is just Incident, Problem & Change Management. And yes, CMDB!” ITIL is a framework that helps organizations to make the most of their IT resources. It was also created by a group of people who wanted to have something more than a company's manual to guide them. ITIL comes with four core processes and six service management processes. These processes are divided into different phases, which provide an overview of how these services can be managed in an organization. The introduction of ITIL has m...

Container Security - GAVS Technologies

Image
Containers are different from Virtual Machines, where VMs need a guest operating system, running on a host operating system, where CPU, Memory, and disk are virtualized. Here, software and its dependencies are packaged.  Containers Image Vulnerabilities Here, an image may be patched without known vulnerabilities initially. But later, a vulnerability might have been discovered while the container image is no longer patched. In traditional systems, updates should be upstreamed in the images, and then deployed again, therefore, containers have vulnerabilities because of the older image version which is deployed. Countermeasures - To get actionable and reliable results we need to use tools that have been designed to assess containers and to avoid container image misconfiguration, you need to validate the image configuration before deploying. Embedded Malware and Clear Text Secrets Container images are collections of files packaged together, having chances of malicious files getting add...

What is Quantum Computing and How it works?

Image
Quantum computers are much more powerful than supercomputers. Large tech companies like IBM, Google, and Rigetti use them. Quantum computer ‘Sycamore’ was achieved by Google in 2019 with its Quantum Supremacy. Sycamore claims to perform calculations in 200 seconds which is usually done by supercomputers in 10,000 years. It is a 54-qubit computer. Special conditions with temperature as low as zero are required to keep such computers.  Quantum Physics Quantum computing falls under Quantum Physics. Superposition and Qubits (Quantum Bits) are the two components where Quantum computing’s heart and soul resides. What are these? Take an example of a coin and spin it in the air. The outcome of the coin on reaching the ground can either be head or tail. This cannot be exactly said until it touches the ground. However, when the coin is in the air it is head and tail both at the same time (Qubit). This condition can be called Superposition. How it works Bits are combinations of 0’s an...
